ABOUT

“A thing that you see in my pictures is that I was not afraid to fall in love with these people.” – Annie Leibovitz

Hey Y'all

My name is Shelby, but my family calls me Sunshine. You can call me either.

Originally from the West Coast of Canada, I grew up loving nature and the endless freedom of the middle of no where.

These days, you can find me photographing just about anything and everything; creating with different mediums of art outside of photography, traveling, and pouring too much money into my horse named King.

My approach to photography is genuine documentation, with moments of editorial and cinematic flare. I strongly believe in movie moments - you know the ones: girl falls in love with boy during European summer romance. Boy chases girl onto plane after relationship-ending argument on some street in Manhattan.

A butterfly lands on your hand. You pick a flower that holds perfectly behind your ear.

You get the idea.

Those movie moments are sprinkled like fairy dust throughout the human experience - and I love to find them and capture them.

So, why birth photography? I think this is one of the most common questions I am asked. I have always loved babies, and been in absolute awe of the power of birth. I volunteered in a hospital in Tanzania for a month after graduating high school and got to be hands on for multiple deliveries. This eventually led to the doula training I did in 2022. Photographing birth seemed like a natural progression for me! I also find its a very misunderstood and underappreciated area of photography and birth. Yes - you are so vulnerable. You may think you don't want any evidence of you in that state - but I have a secret for you... it is you in your most powerful state. You will look back at these photos and see yourself creating life. You will have an opportunity to relive your birth through an entirely different lens (oh look, a pun).

Take the photo. Save the moment. Document your life.
